Quick, avert your gaze, everyone!

by Anonymousreply 1July 24, 2024 1:54 PM

I think he sounds and looks great.

by Anonymousreply 2July 24, 2024 1:56 PM

Don’t fucking look at me!

by Anonymousreply 3July 24, 2024 1:57 PM

Following the toxic workplace allegations, they already have a trailer and it’s an “only in cinemas” release.

by Anonymousreply 4July 24, 2024 2:05 PM

Magnificent

Timmy will win an Oscar for this

Keep on publishing the Timmy content OP

by Anonymousreply 5July 24, 2024 2:08 PM

Yeah it’s getting a last minute 2024 release date. He’s so thirsty for that Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 6July 24, 2024 2:08 PM

R5: is Timmy.

by Anonymousreply 7July 24, 2024 2:09 PM

Flop

by Anonymousreply 10July 24, 2024 2:17 PM

It looks better than I thought it would. He definitely captures Dylan's unique sound and aura, which is not easy to do.

I see they're going to play up the romantic love triangle, between Dylan, Suzy Rotolo and Baez. The woman playing Joan (is this the girl from Top Gun?) looks and seems nothing like her, but whatever. Dylan treated nearly all of his partners like crap, so it won't be very accurate film if they romanticize this; the fact that Dylan himself is producing probably won't lend to much honesty. He'll have to be long gone before we get a real biopic.

by Anonymousreply 11July 24, 2024 2:18 PM

You’re a LIAR

by Anonymousreply 12July 24, 2024 2:25 PM

December release date - he’ll campaign like La Cooper.

I’m sorry but I see Timothee Chalamet and not a performance and transformation into Bob Dylan.

by Anonymousreply 13July 24, 2024 2:29 PM

It looks fine. But who is the audience for this?

The TikTok generation went for Elvis because it was made in their language. This is not. This recalls the Coen Bros’ bleak, pensive Inside Llewyn Davis.

If they wanted Chalamet to bring in the kids, they should have had him play Mick Jagger.

This will get awards nominations and flop.

Cruising looking for cock.

by Anonymousreply 19July 24, 2024 2:56 PM

The clock is ticking for him. He's pushing 30 and his "looks" won't last forever or be enough of a reason to keep getting employed.

by Anonymousreply 20July 24, 2024 3:06 PM

Overrated stick figure.

by Anonymousreply 21July 24, 2024 3:07 PM

I was teased, music and visuals gave me the chills. Unless reviews declare a train wreck, I'll immerse in a big screen.

by Anonymousreply 22July 24, 2024 3:32 PM

His team must see a threat in Glen Powell. Twisters opened to $80+ million and Wonka's opening weekend was $39.5 million.

by Anonymousreply 25July 24, 2024 3:48 PM

R4 a theatrical release is common. Expecting it to come out on streaming immediately is a problem.

by Anonymousreply 26July 24, 2024 4:07 PM

R24 ironic you ask this when you’re always… posting critics reviews.

by Anonymousreply 27July 24, 2024 4:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 28July 24, 2024 4:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 29July 24, 2024 4:09 PM

Aw, Timothee gets to play dress up. No offense but Bob Dylan was fug. Having a pretty big play him is a stretch.

by Anonymousreply 30July 24, 2024 4:54 PM

^ pretty boy

by Anonymousreply 31July 24, 2024 4:54 PM

R26: At the very least, this should've been a hybrid release. An exclusively in theaters release can also be a sign of overconfidence and ego.

R31: Fug rat plays fug stick figure.

by Anonymousreply 32July 24, 2024 5:06 PM

R29: Paul Mescal better pray Wickidator overshadows all the December releases and becomes the new Barbenheimer.

by Anonymousreply 33July 24, 2024 5:27 PM

Looks boring. Needed a better trailer.

by Anonymousreply 34July 24, 2024 5:40 PM

Why not just watch Inside Llewyn Davis? Nobody actually wants to be inside Zimmy.

by Anonymousreply 35July 24, 2024 5:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 36July 24, 2024 5:59 PM

Is Edward Norton playing Pete Seeger?

by Anonymousreply 37July 24, 2024 6:10 PM

He's better looking than Bob.

by Anonymousreply 38July 24, 2024 6:12 PM

A friend of mine worked as crew on it and he said Chalamet was a total asshole. Everybody was instructed not to look in his eyes. The director and DP were in competition as to who would be the biggest douchebag. The crew was miserable and couldn’t fucking wait for the shoot to end.

by Anonymousreply 39July 24, 2024 6:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 45July 24, 2024 7:09 PM

According to my crew friend he would also go home early on some days and his stand-in would have to read the lines when it was time to do the close-ups of certain supporting cast. There were two stand-ins for Chalamet before a third one was found who was up to the job.

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2024 8:53 PM

The other girls had to go back to high school and study instead.

by Anonymousreply 47July 24, 2024 8:55 PM

Does he get his ass out in this?

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2024 9:02 PM

Someone upthread reminded me of something -- I really miss good film/theater/music reviews, that you usually could find a variation of in most big and small city newspapers. It seems like a lot of the times what you get now is a "recap". Are they paid off, or is it just that entertainment corporations are enormous and often own the company who makes the movie as well as the company in whose media the review appears?

by Anonymousreply 49July 24, 2024 9:09 PM

R49: It's just the way the world works unfortunately but most of the times these celebs' PR teams tell the media outlets what to write. The PR firms know a lot of fans and entertainment sites are gullible and hope that the fans won't find any contradictions.

by Anonymousreply 50July 24, 2024 9:12 PM

Well if that's Timmee singing, I'm impressed.

by Anonymousreply 51July 24, 2024 9:29 PM

Anyone can sing like Dylan. 🤢

by Anonymousreply 52July 24, 2024 9:32 PM

did 'im...

by Anonymousreply 53July 24, 2024 9:33 PM

Holy shot they already have a pretty long trailer and they just wrapped a month ago. Yes Dylan has some appeal but I think he knows it won’t be an easy sell like Dune and Wonka.

by Anonymousreply 54July 24, 2024 9:35 PM

Timmy's fans couldn't make his cannibal movie a hit. They have zero clue as to who Bob Dylan is or why his songs were important. And we Boomers who sang them, from "The Times, They Are a-Changin'" (I even quoted this one in a college Sociology paper!) to "Like a Rolling Stone" to "Lay, Lady, Lay" aren't that interested in the lead actor.

Same with Leonard Bernstein. Not a big enough demographic that knows of or still cares about the "Maestro."

Thus, "A Complete Unknown" will follow the same losing Box Office path, and reviewers will point out the title's irony.

by Anonymousreply 55July 24, 2024 11:32 PM

R51, Is he as good as Jimmy Fallon, IYO?

Yeah, we all read the Daily Mail article. No need to share what your "friend" told you.

by Anonymousreply 58July 25, 2024 12:59 AM

I guess the Ping Pong movie is backup in case the Dylan film becomes Oscar flop bait.

by Anonymousreply 59July 25, 2024 1:14 AM

R51 why didn't they just hire Jimmy Fallon? I'm VERY impressed.

by Anonymousreply 60July 25, 2024 3:13 AM

I meant r56. See above.

by Anonymousreply 61July 25, 2024 3:15 AM

He's in France right now with his sugar mama. I don't think he even knows that there was a DM article calling him an abusive on-set asshole. I don't think his team even talks to him when there's bad news.

by Anonymousreply 62July 25, 2024 3:30 AM

r20 His "looks" lasted for never.

by Anonymousreply 63July 25, 2024 3:48 AM

Fuck off, R58. I hadn’t read the Daily Fail article. That was just the first thing my crew fruend told me which made Chalamet an asshole on set. The second thing was he’d leave set early and his stand-in woukd have to read lines with the supporting cast for their close-ups instead of him being there. Reading is fundamental, bitch, look into it,

by Anonymousreply 64July 25, 2024 4:19 AM

I think he knows a win may be out of the question but he’ll campaign even harder than La Cooper and hope that leftover goodwill from Dune 2 will carry him to a nomination.

by Anonymousreply 65July 25, 2024 4:24 AM

Does anyone here think he'll get a nomination for Dune 2?

by Anonymousreply 66July 25, 2024 4:27 AM

I’ll wait for reviews. I imagine the film is still dripping with paint and interestingly these clips aren’t really Chalamet focused and heavy. He barely speaks in this trailer.

by Anonymousreply 67July 25, 2024 4:27 AM

His thirst for an Oscar is almost as embarrassing as JLC's a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 68July 25, 2024 4:29 AM

R66: If we lived in a fair world, Dune 2 wouldn’t get nominated for anything. It was so boring and he was totally unconvincing in the part. It’s still very early and things can change but I think Dune 2 will get in for director, picture, and the below the line categories.

by Anonymousreply 69July 25, 2024 4:29 AM

As of today, GoldDerby has him in sixth place for a nomination for A Complete Unknown.

by Anonymousreply 70July 25, 2024 4:32 AM

R58 The Daily Mail article can exist, and a poster here can have a friend on the crew. Both things can be true at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 71July 25, 2024 12:29 PM

Dune 2 was a dud.

by Anonymousreply 72July 25, 2024 1:39 PM

Anything Calumet is in automatic box office death.

by Anonymousreply 73July 25, 2024 4:05 PM

The clothes look right but that's about it. It looks like Chalamet is doing an impression of Chalamet doing an impression of Dylan.

by Anonymousreply 74July 25, 2024 4:19 PM

As stated above, it won't be Timmy's performance that will sink this ship, it will be the high-gloss cinematic cover-up of Dylan's terrible treatment of his partners that will hurt it. This trailer makes it seem like this is a romance, but he was no romantic figure.

I'm also confused by Elle Fanning here - she's supposed to be playing the Suzy Rotolo character, who in real life was outgoing, brunette, plump-ish, and exotic (as per Dylan's memoirs). Fanning is waifish and as pale-Waspy as they come. Poor casting choice.

by Anonymousreply 75July 25, 2024 4:43 PM

Well if they use his songs then they can’t really cover up what a dick he was to the women. Half of his career is diss tracks.

by Anonymousreply 76July 25, 2024 5:46 PM

He nor his personal reps have responded so far to the accusations. I guess they're praying that more blinds won't drop before December. As for Kylie, this may be unpopular but I actually think it's for real but they still use it for publicity anyway.

by Anonymousreply 77July 25, 2024 9:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 83August 5, 2024 3:49 AM

This movie has limited box office appeal. I just don't think Dylan's life will draw audiences, despite his distinguished career. People staying away in droves is what's blowin' in the wind.

by Anonymousreply 84August 5, 2024 4:42 AM

Well, I'm going to see it, r84. Probably on opening day.

by Anonymousreply 85August 5, 2024 4:44 AM

R158: Gay powerhouse agent Brian Swardstrom.

by Anonymousreply 159August 20, 2024 9:31 PM

Yes with every 8 veiny bent inches.

by Anonymousreply 160August 20, 2024 9:44 PM

R160

You do realize prosthetic use is not limited to on-set sexy times.

That poolside “pap capture” was so well choreographed, Alvin Ailey would have been pleased.

by Anonymousreply 161August 20, 2024 11:51 PM

Here's the thing: This title is fraught with the possibility of bad plays on it. For example: "'A Complete Unknown': A movie that should have stayed one."

Und so veiter.

by Anonymousreply 162August 21, 2024 12:06 AM

“A Complete Waste of Time” - Rex Reed

“A Complete Snooze” - Manola Dargis

“A Complete Fabrication” - Peter Travers

by Anonymousreply 163August 21, 2024 12:17 AM

[quote]Sounds like Timmy can’t deliver. He’s been overly hyped as a great actor when he’s actually quite average.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he got his Oscar nom basically for playing himself. He’s been coasting on that ever since.

by Anonymousreply 164August 24, 2024 4:11 PM

R163: That title really is awful just like the lead actor. They should’ve stuck with Going Electric.

by Anonymousreply 165August 30, 2024 8:48 PM

This bitch eating crackers…

by Anonymousreply 167August 30, 2024 10:44 PM

It's simply a story no-one is asking for. Not that people cannot be educated or entertained, but that Bob Dylan's life beyond music has never been, to my experience of 74 years, one of that great an interest or topic of conversation, unlike the biographies of many others. Maybe death enhances one's story, I don't know.

The title is, as I posted in r162, unfortunate. To add why: It is utterly generic. Who amongst us, aside from heirs to thrones, does not start life as "A Complete Unknown"?

Also, is it intended to entice those unfamiliar with Dylan, as in, "Pays yer money, and find out!"?

I guess this movie is for Boomers and/or fans of Timothee. Ho-hum.

by Anonymousreply 168August 30, 2024 11:28 PM

R168. The title is a clear dodge:

Hollywood is afraid of anything that might remotely be classified as a musical, or have a significant amount of music.

Hollywood is afraid “Dylan” in the title will only attract The Olds.

Hollywood is promoting this Victorian Waif-looking, one-note acting fame whore like crazy, hoping barely-pubescent girls will put their cunt-dripping asses in seats.

It’s just that simple.

by Anonymousreply 169August 30, 2024 11:44 PM

He’s way too tall to play Dylan.

by Anonymousreply 170August 30, 2024 11:51 PM

R170: He's not that tall. Some sites have his height listed as 6'0' which is ridiculous. I think he's at best 5'10.'

by Anonymousreply 171August 30, 2024 11:55 PM

A sneeze could take him out. I’m surprised he’s survived this long.

by Anonymousreply 172August 30, 2024 11:58 PM

He doesn’t remotely call to mind Dylan at R166. He looks like Tim O’Tay with bad stuck-on sideburns and a fey expression.

by Anonymousreply 173August 31, 2024 4:44 AM

Both men and women liked young Dylan and his music. He had a lot of cool and was in his way cocky, insolent, a bit sexy. I would say he had swagger. Game.

TimOTay doesn't appeal much to young men, as far as I know. TimOTay doesn't seem to have a fraction of the cool that Johnny Depp easily had for a couple decades. Depp started as good looking waif and took it very far earning billions in box office. Became a global star. Dylan became a global star. I don't see this for TimOTay except that Hollywood will put him in tent pole movies.

[quote]clean Jewish 20 something on the spectrum.

I think the same thing about him being on the spectrum.

by Anonymousreply 175August 31, 2024 7:18 AM

If you give a good performance, you give a good performance. I don't get what "playing himself" even means. You can't really play yourself. You have to create a believable character and be believable within the scene in your emotions and responses. You have to modulate your performance to a camera and a microphone, and all sort of technical things. You don't need to play some very different character from yourself with an accent or a deformity or something to be giving a performance.

by Anonymousreply 176August 31, 2024 7:31 AM

I don’t think he’s on the spectrum. I think he carefully cultivated that awkward, adorkable image to mask the fact that he’s an entitled prick.

by Anonymousreply 177September 1, 2024 6:59 PM

Who, Dylan?

by Anonymousreply 178September 1, 2024 7:02 PM

R178. No, Ratboy.

by Anonymousreply 179September 1, 2024 7:07 PM

That doesn’t help!

by Anonymousreply 180September 1, 2024 7:08 PM

Official Trailer #2.

The movie appears to benefit by a decent number of Dylan songs.

In comparison, I think Baz with "Elvis" made an artistic masterpiece, but not a musical one.

Does not look promising.

by Anonymousreply 182October 8, 2024 5:20 PM

The more they show, the more it seems generic. None of the leads look like the persons they are playing. They’ve all been smoothed out and made to seem contemporary.

by Anonymousreply 183October 8, 2024 6:02 PM

Again, Elle Fanning is too meek, simpy and uncharismatic to play the Suzy Rotolo character. SR was dark haired, spunky and curvy.

by Anonymousreply 184October 8, 2024 10:16 PM

I think Timothee will be nominated for awards. Joaquin is now likely out of the running. Then there's...?

Would the Academy give BA AGAIN to the lead in "Gladiator," albeit "2"? Is it Paul's year in the year of the Timothee's ignored "Paul" in "Dune: Part 2"?

Has anyone even SEEN the other movies? No, wait; make that heard of? "Conclave"? "Sing Sing"? "The Brutalist"?

Sebastian Stan as Trump? Nah, even though the movie looks to be enjoyable.

Shame on the academy if they nominate him for this pure Oscar bait crap. It’s very basic Timmy doing a bad Bob Dylan impression.

[quote]Anything Calumet is in automatic box office death.

Hate to break it to ya, R73 but...

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (2017): Budget of $3.4 million and grossed $41.9 million worldwide. Led to a Best Actor Oscar nomination for Timmy.

BEAUTIFUL BOY: Didn't perform at the box office, but netted Timmy a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA nomination.

LITTLE WOMEN (2019): Budget of $40 million and grossed $218.9 million worldwide.

DUNE (2021): Budget of $165 million and grossed $407.6 million at the box office. Well received by critics and audiences.

THE FRENCH DISPATCH (2021): Budget of $25 million, grossed $46 million, and had the highest box office opening of any film during the pandemic.

WONKA (2023): Budget of $125 million, grossed $635 million worldwide.

DUNE 2 (2024): Budget of $190 million, and grossed $82.5 million in its opening weekend -- domestically. As of April 2024, Dune 2 had grossed over $700 million worldwide.

Timothée Chalamet ain't going anywhere, anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 187October 9, 2024 12:12 AM

I could see Timothee getting a sympathy "For the Boys" nomination, like Bette Midler did. But no chance of winning.

by Anonymousreply 188October 9, 2024 2:01 AM

R187 is Timmy.

by Anonymousreply 189October 9, 2024 2:07 AM

R73: I don't know about box office death but I definitely know the film is shit if he's in it.

Wonka was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. They took the masterpiece that was the original, drugged and raped it and asked Chat GPT to create the dialogue. An abomination. I was so fucking angry through the entire viewing.

by Anonymousreply 191October 9, 2024 3:27 AM

God only knows how many old, ugly producers he fucked to get his career.

by Anonymousreply 192October 11, 2024 10:46 AM

Timothée Chalamet is a complete unknown? If only.

by Anonymousreply 193October 11, 2024 12:15 PM

Timmy is an industry plant. Even from a young age his parents took him to events .

by Anonymousreply 194October 11, 2024 1:00 PM

R194: Mama Chalamet in particular and I don't think she wants him to end his "relationship" with the billionaire Kartrashian anytime soon.

R193: People who go the movies and Hollywood nerds definitely know who he is. I think the average person who hates Hollywood or doesn't know anything about it has no idea who he is. In other words, I don't think he's super famous like Taylor Swift or George Clooney or Ben Affleck.

by Anonymousreply 195October 11, 2024 7:19 PM

r195 His mom and sister seem to love the Kardashians and hang out with them a lot, so you're right about that

by Anonymousreply 196October 11, 2024 8:09 PM

R196: His mom and sister were also very friendly to Lily Rose Depp. Who knows if that was real or not but at least that pairing had an element of plausibility to it. He'll do the publicity stunts, PDA, pap walks and all that but he never directly acknowledges them.

by Anonymousreply 197October 11, 2024 8:49 PM

Does anyone else feel that movies virtually disappear, no matter their Box Office and/or hype at the time?

"Elvis," "Top Gun: Maverick," "The Whale," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "The Holdovers," even "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie." Who speaks of these movies and their leads today?

Yet look at the thread about our "10 Go-To Movies." Re-watched multiple times and still discussed, almost if not all of them.

I don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 198October 12, 2024 10:27 PM

It looks horrible. And I'm sure Timmy thinks his flat prepubescent ass is getting an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 199October 12, 2024 11:41 PM

R199: This is pure Oscar bait from the get go. The question is will he pull it off. Right now the best actor category is relatively open and he has Dune 2 in his favor. Shame on the Academy if they nominate this bad SNL impression over more worthy performances but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets in.

by Anonymousreply 200October 12, 2024 11:58 PM

Will Jeremy Strong be up for Best Actor for his Roy Cohn?

by Anonymousreply 201October 13, 2024 12:02 AM

As much as I'm looking forward to A Complete Unknown, Adrien Brody's going to win for The Brutalist.

by Anonymousreply 202October 13, 2024 12:20 AM

R201, are you in need of some support hose?
