A continuation thread for our nattering about Britain's favourite soap.
What a beautiful portrait of my Gail. I only wish she'd let me trim em dead ends.

Martin won't be back after all.
[quote] "Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons," an ITV spokesperson told us.
[quote] A representative for Wilson has also been approached for comment. His spokesperson told The Sun: "Neither he nor I will be making any further comment or statement.”
[quote] According to The Sun, all of the scenes Sean filmed since he returned to set late last month have been scrapped and will no longer air.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 16, 2024 11:58 PM |
R12 wow, what's upset him this time?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2024 12:14 AM |
Him exiting has shat all over Our Gail's exit storyline. I'm not sorry if the intention was to pair her off with Martin again, she was always a much stronger character than he was and I didn't like his acting.
And Gail doesn't need a man, she can be happy alone.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
Gail and her new chin, r14?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 17, 2024 1:38 AM |
R14. Aye, us street women need no man to take care o' us!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 17, 2024 8:57 AM |
1. Old Bailey is back, so the husband and I were happy to have the opportunity to scream OH, FOR THE MUSE OF FIRE when our favourite actors' actor came onscreen
2. Tracy's return has been underwhelming, except for the cute Mary bit.
3. Maybe it is time to cut out the Battersby girls once and for all
Meanwhile, Kit is becoming more attractive every day. Too bad the show probably has enough gay characters right now.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 17, 2024 9:22 AM |
The actor who plays Martin has left “for personal reasons”, and the scenes he has been filming for several weeks have been scrapped. Gail’s send off will have to be totally rewritten. Nobody is telling what really happened.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 17, 2024 9:39 AM |
It must be health related if they're keeping this quiet. It would have leaked by now if it was something scandalous.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 17, 2024 9:40 AM |
R19 I'm not so sure. Reports say Sean Wilson was summoned to a meeting then promptly left the set. If they aren't even trying to salvage some of Martin's visit and going to the trouble of filming lots of new scenes to replace them, its suggestive.
Plus his agent saying “Neither he nor I will be making any further comment or statement", sounds angry and defensive.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 17, 2024 9:54 AM |
If it's not health, then it's vulnerability to liability.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 17, 2024 10:02 AM |
I hope Gail's exit isn't going to be generic a "going off to find myself" extended trip, it need to be more final.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 17, 2024 11:06 AM |
R23. I lef' to go find meself, Chuck. Then Alec dragged me back...
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 17, 2024 3:31 PM |
I wonder if he was caught doing drugs on the set.
It must be something like that given how quickly they dumped him.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 17, 2024 3:45 PM |
Or he leaked something.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 17, 2024 3:49 PM |
Maybe he came back to deliberately sabotage Helen's exit storyline, as he knows she belongs in the show.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 17, 2024 4:00 PM |
R23 Ye left 'cause ye couldn't hack it runnin' the flamin' Rovers luv. Ye ran that place int'a ground! Is it any wonder I wouldn't sink my hard-earnd brass to bail ye out?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 17, 2024 4:04 PM |
Well the official statement says he left for personal reasons, which could mean anything.
I'm fully expecting the whole story to appear over the next few days.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 17, 2024 6:19 PM |
I hope he wasn't up to Bruno Langley's old tricks, sticking his fingers where their not invited.

I'm starting to think Victor was right about you. Eat your parsnips!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 18, 2024 11:10 AM |
Still no news on his departure?
He was summoned to head office and then left the show, so he was probably sacked.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 18, 2024 1:11 PM |
Maybe he was trying to hock his cheese?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 18, 2024 2:12 PM |
You're drunk, Mavis!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 18, 2024 3:49 PM |
Maybe they wrote a big twist, Martin was Bethany's father all along! Nowadays they go for sensationalism, and Sean quit before when they tried to write him as a pervert into young girls
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 18, 2024 8:47 PM |
So it turns out they've cast John Thompson from Cold Feet as Gail's love interest, basically giving away the storyline. He was in Corrie years ago but slummed it with Grimshaw.
Sean was axed 2 weeks ago.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 19, 2024 7:10 AM |
So we'll get one last round with old Gail and Eileen?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 19, 2024 8:39 AM |
Sean is out? For real?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 19, 2024 8:54 AM |
Sean who played Martin.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 19, 2024 8:56 AM |
Eileen looks like a different person since she lost the weight. Not in a good way
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 19, 2024 9:59 AM |
R41 if only it was that Sean! Dead wood.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 19, 2024 1:18 PM |
Damn, r42 -- I was excited for a moment. Ta.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 19, 2024 3:13 PM |
Me too, r45. Me too. I can't believe it took nearly 20 years for him to stop being old Eileen's lodger.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 19, 2024 3:28 PM |
Sean has helped drag Eileen from being a great character to a complete annoyance. Also, working with Simon (Steve) hasn't helped as she mirrors his face pulling and overreactions too much. The actress Sue Cleaver was much better in her first few years.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 19, 2024 4:26 PM |
Wasn't she an opera singer?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 19, 2024 4:37 PM |
Now it is suggested lawyers are involved in Martin's messy exit, with top bosses "not allowed to talk".
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 19, 2024 5:08 PM |
One of the writers. Damon Rochefort, posted on FB that he wanted to make a donation to the Harris/Walz campaign but was informed he wasn’t eligible as a UK citizen. They should send Gail to the US as a volunteer for the Harris/Walz campaign and have her end up marrying some Yank.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 26, 2024 8:34 AM |
Our Gail would have drawn blood on Donald Dump. So would Audrey. Claudia would have flirted with him cause she's a tart.

Is it true Emily Bishop wasn't fucked since Ernest got shot in the 70s?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 30, 2024 4:49 AM |
R61. I don't think she got screwed while Ernie was alive, poor bloke.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 30, 2024 4:54 AM |
Buh bye, Beth. And good riddance.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 30, 2024 8:41 PM |
What was her exit storyline?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 30, 2024 8:53 PM |
R61,
There used to be a hilarious series of old episodes of Coronation Street where the dialogue was dubbed, and the storyline involved everyone on the street having a sexual perversion. Ernest was impotent, and was always trying new ways to get hard in order to satisfy Emily.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 30, 2024 8:57 PM |
R65 Buggernation Street! Thanks for the reminder
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 30, 2024 9:02 PM |
I can’t find the episodes on YouTube, but here’s an article with details of the plots.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 30, 2024 9:02 PM |
So Beth is gone. I saw a video of Lisa George sitting in the knicker factory talking about it. She's lost a LOT of weight.
Will she be back? What will Kirkie do?
And when the hell is Paul going to kick the bucket?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 31, 2024 4:20 PM |
R68 well who knows but Lisa is definitely gone, contract over. Has panto lined up for Christmas.
Kirk is a terrible character, he didn't start out like that, the shite writing have made him into a running joke, and not a funny one
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 31, 2024 4:33 PM |
Lisa left because she has a condition that is slowly making her lose her vision. She wants to try other roles first. Beth always felt like a rehash of bawdy Cilla to me, so I never warmed to her.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 3, 2024 2:21 PM |
We will say goodbye to our Paul next week.

I was looking for The Road to Coronation Street on a streamer, but it isn't available for streaming.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 5, 2024 10:44 AM |
R73. I did care for my Martha and for my Minnie. They were me pals...unless they made me cross! Which was oft'n!
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 5, 2024 5:35 PM |
I really enjoyed that show, R74. Jessie Wallace was surprisingly well-suited to the role of Pat Phoenix.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 6, 2024 1:47 AM |
R76. It WAS a great movie. It's funny how Doris Speed went from a secretary (although a trained actress) to the Queen if the Cobbles Annie "Lilac Time" Walker.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 6, 2024 2:46 AM |
I liked it when I saw it on BritBox, but it isn't available to stream any longer, r76, r77.

Does this soap have any gays left?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 6, 2024 1:01 PM |
Well...Paul, Billy, Todd, the excreable waste of flesh called Sean....some lesbians or lesbian-adjjacents....
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 6, 2024 1:04 PM |
Lynda Baron was great as Violet Carson.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 6, 2024 1:32 PM |
And it was produced by the BBC, not ITV. Which makes no sense to me.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 6, 2024 9:06 PM |
R79. It's a shame. This show prided itself on its gay characters in the beginning...Ernie Bishop and Fred Gee being the biggest of them all!
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 6, 2024 11:32 PM |
That was actually a surprisingly well-done goodbye to Paul. Neither Bernie, Gemma or Summer are characters I'm particularly fond of, but all three actresses gave great performances. And I like the twist of Bernie letting Billy believe Paul was still alive to hear his goodbye. I hope they leave it at that, and don't have someone let the truth slip to Billy.
I predict Billy will mope for a while about how he'll never love again, then be banging Todd by New Year.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | September 10, 2024 12:14 AM |
R84 or have a horny fuck with him while Todd is helping clear out Paul's things, then be wracked with self-loathing

Has Our Gail's exit storyline kicked off yet? She's only got just over 3 months left
by Anonymous | reply 86 | September 18, 2024 5:12 PM |
I saw some link announcing what it is, so it must be soon. I'm a week behind so it may have started now that Paul's gone. We've also got Bethany in a stoma after botched lipo to look forward to.

Still catching up and just watched Paul's death episodes, which were surprisingly well-done and well acted. The show's been shit for so long that it was good to see something work. Can't stand anti-vaxx Daniel Brocklebank, though. Relieved I won't be seeing him as much for a while. Jane Hazlegrove's masterful as Bernie, though. I hated her at first, but she's subtly and slowly captured my heart.

Also hoping Aadi and Amy become an anchor couple that they don't fuck with too much. Writers deserve some credit for the care they are taking with those two. I was worried they were going to fuck it up by frittering away our Deirdre's inheritance and not taking the loss of that as seriously as it should be, given how much we all miss and love the poor gal.

Gail's love interest John Thompson arrives on the cobbles next week. Smartly they have a backstory where he knows Gail from Thailand and has come to check on her, instead of them barely knowing each other.
Gail selling the house to pay for Bethany's medical bills is silly though, why not get a mortgage against the value?

I thought David owned the house through some deal with Gail? Let Bethany rot in Istanbul.
