You’re clueless, r3, aka “typo warrior supreme”

[Quote] THEY LIVE

Why do people love that awful picture?

by Anonymousreply 5October 8, 2024 12:24 AM

was Assault on Vivian Vance the straight to video scarefest with Helen Lawson as Viv?

by Anonymousreply 6October 8, 2024 12:25 AM

Thr Flog is hiz best.

by Anonymousreply 7October 8, 2024 12:27 AM

[quote] Assault on Vivian Vance

Otherwise known as "The Phil Ober Story."

by Anonymousreply 8October 8, 2024 12:27 AM

The Thing.

by Anonymousreply 9October 8, 2024 12:32 AM

It's not an awful picture. It's a masterpiece.

by Anonymousreply 10October 8, 2024 12:37 AM

Slarman.

by Anonymousreply 11October 8, 2024 12:38 AM

Christine should be an option

by Anonymousreply 12October 8, 2024 12:42 AM

They Live is camp at its finest.

And Rowdy Roddy Piper wasn't bad to look at either.

by Anonymousreply 13October 8, 2024 12:47 AM

They Live is so cringe

by Anonymousreply 14October 8, 2024 12:53 AM

The Thing kind of sucks.

La Keller has entered the chat

by Anonymousreply 16October 8, 2024 12:55 AM

"Starman" is criminally underrated.

The scene where the alien morphs into Jeff Bridges features a shot of Bridges' beautiful smooth ass, back in the day when he had a gorgeous body.

R14 = sounds like a 15-year-old girl 🙄.

by Anonymousreply 18October 8, 2024 1:09 AM

Said the retard who loves that piece of utter trash — AND uses emojis in text.

by Anonymousreply 19October 8, 2024 3:02 AM

R19 is the retarded opee

by Anonymousreply 20October 8, 2024 3:04 AM

I'd like to see the movie he made the night he killed Bob Crane.

by Anonymousreply 21October 8, 2024 3:20 AM

[silently shaking in a fit of laughter at r11's response]

by Anonymousreply 22October 8, 2024 3:57 AM

R20, I take that as a badge of honor from someone who thinks a piece of dreck like “They Live” is a masterpiece.

by Anonymousreply 23October 8, 2024 5:00 AM

Halloween for sure. He did so much with such a small budget and changed the horror genre in the process.

by Anonymousreply 24October 8, 2024 5:10 AM

Is Starman worth watching?

by Anonymousreply 25October 8, 2024 5:38 PM

Yes most definitely, r25.

by Anonymousreply 26October 8, 2024 5:47 PM

R2 I love They Live, The Thing, The Fog, Escape from New York, Halloween (of course), Prince of Darkness, and In the Mouth of Madness.

by Anonymousreply 27October 8, 2024 5:49 PM

R24, The Thing and Halloween are the biggest dilemma for determining which is Carpenter’s best.

As you say, he created a fabulous world and lore, and a very frightening story, with Halloween.

I have to give the edge to The Thing because it has all of the best elements of Halloween, but now with much better actors, a more elaborate set, much more terrifying effects (and most of them practical) and a more interesting story.

by Anonymousreply 28October 8, 2024 5:56 PM

My favorite is oddly Prince of Darkness, though it is hardly his best.

I would say Halloween.

by Anonymousreply 29October 8, 2024 7:12 PM

Halloween

by Anonymousreply 30October 8, 2024 7:17 PM

Prince Of Darkness

by Anonymousreply 31October 8, 2024 7:51 PM

R28 I think you’ve managed to change my mind. I’ve seen Halloween countless times but The Thing only a handful. I know I loved it but it’s been years since I’ve revisited. I’m going to rewatch this week.

by Anonymousreply 32October 8, 2024 7:55 PM

The Thing is a big lumbering mess. Take away the effects and the beard and there’s not much left.

by Anonymousreply 33October 8, 2024 8:07 PM

Shots fired.

by Anonymousreply 34October 8, 2024 8:14 PM

The Thing still holds up extremely well. The effects look great, despite being 42 years old. And the story is excellent.

Halloween largely invented the slasher genre and changed horror forever. But it feels very of its time, so I give the advantage to The Thing.

by Anonymousreply 35October 8, 2024 8:21 PM

The Fog is my favorite just for the amazing atmosphere that he created. I also think it's held up the best of all his movies.

by Anonymousreply 36October 8, 2024 9:11 PM

Prince of Darkness is good, pulpy fun. It's like a high-stakes Tales From the Crypt story.

by Anonymousreply 37October 10, 2024 5:42 AM

r8 sounds like a smash hit!

by Anonymousreply 38October 16, 2024 12:32 AM

You did t put my personal fav in the poll ESCAPE FROM VIVIAN VANCE

by Anonymousreply 39October 16, 2024 12:40 AM

The Thing followed by Big Trouble in Little China.

by Anonymousreply 40October 16, 2024 1:08 AM

So what are those guys doing at that base in The Thing? Research? Mining? Are they scientists? Do they work? Are they just watching the base for the winter?

by Anonymousreply 41October 16, 2024 1:21 AM

R35 If it was 'of its time' Zombie wouldn't have retold it in an ambiguous, although more modern context.

Not trying to accredit Rob Zombie with master filmmaker status; it's actually funny IMO when he went to Carpenter to get his 'blessing ' on the project, he expected John to be grateful the movie was being remade (so original), but he had a basic 'meh, and??' like response, so as to make Rob feel insulted.

It's a typical research station, r41. Some of the people have blue collar jobs and some are scientists/pilots/cooks

Does the typical research station have a bar like that? Or a pilot with a five month supply of scotch?

Here's one more vote for "They Live."

I wonder what DL would look like with those glasses on.

by Anonymousreply 48October 16, 2024 8:44 PM

I love The Thing with Kurt Russell. You can really see how the Alien Franchise borrowed from it.

by Anonymousreply 49October 16, 2024 9:08 PM

Alien was first!

by Anonymousreply 50October 16, 2024 9:10 PM

The Thing, Starman - John Carpenter got them at their hottest, didn't he.

by Anonymousreply 51October 16, 2024 9:17 PM

Alien did the working class alien monster slasher movie first, and that first one has aged better than The Thing.

by Anonymousreply 52October 16, 2024 9:44 PM

The opening scene is so strange and, on reviewing it, so wonderfully creepy. Some parts later on i find less successful but it is a great movie.

Halloween is a classic but one i hardly ever revisit. It has been done to death.

The Fog is great movie as well, cresting a very tense mood with very little being shown.

by Anonymousreply 53October 16, 2024 9:51 PM

Adrienne Bigboobs's lighthouse scenes in The Fog are some of my favorite horror movie scenes ever.

by Anonymousreply 54October 17, 2024 3:10 PM

Escape NYC a true classic and a peek at Americas future.

by Anonymousreply 55October 17, 2024 3:16 PM

“Escape NYC?” Such a great film you don’t remember the title?

by Anonymousreply 56October 17, 2024 3:22 PM

My favorite of his movies was “The Frog” but it’s one of those movies where the monster is implied like in the Blare Witch Projects.

by Anonymousreply 57October 17, 2024 3:23 PM

R56 the title is in the fucking heading of the thread. The informed smart members understood the shorthand. And seriously if you don’t know the title then what the fuck are you doing on this thread?

This kind of stupid chirping you do is such a waste of time and hardly interesting or funny.
