I just love K.D. Lang.

One of the best live singers ever.

The gal has pipes. That cannot be denied.

by Anonymousreply 1October 13, 2024 12:52 AM

Beautiful voice

by Anonymousreply 2October 13, 2024 12:58 AM

She still alive? Where'd she go?

by Anonymousreply 3October 13, 2024 1:00 AM

Of course she's still alive, R3.

I've always liked Constant Craving - and always thought it was a hoot that the music video was a play on Waiting for Godot.

by Anonymousreply 5October 13, 2024 1:08 AM

I’ll listen with my eyes closed because she’s ugly

by Anonymousreply 6October 13, 2024 1:11 AM

She’s spectacular!

I wish she’d record more.

I first saw her at the Calgary Olympics in '88. I was blown away, as were most people who witnessed the event.

I love "Pullin Back the Reins," and I'm surprised that Orville Peck hasn't tried to duet with her on a cover. It's the kind of sound he tries to emulate.

She lives in Portland, OR now, and has apparently become (sadly) even more obese,.

I don't think she performs anymore, but I could be wrong.

She just did an interview with CBC, R11, I wouldn't call her obese.

Does the KD stand for King Dyke?

by Anonymousreply 14October 13, 2024 1:42 AM

fantastic!

by Anonymousreply 15October 13, 2024 1:45 AM

Her voice is so pure and strong; it’s really a shame she doesn’t perform live anymore. She’s a rare singer that actually sounds better in person than on record. No autotune or anything else needed—-just that voice.

by Anonymousreply 16October 13, 2024 2:52 AM

Oh she's lost so much weight! I'm so happy for her.

by Anonymousreply 17October 13, 2024 3:05 AM

She bounced between genres, which can cut into one's success, and many of her original songs are forgettable.

If she'd taken the Tony Bennett classic cover route, I think she'd be more successful.

That's not to say I didn't smile at some of her experimentation; in addition to great pipes, she's got a fun sense of humor. The album "Drag" (she appears on the cover in drag) is actually a collection of songs about cigarettes. And the "Miss Chatelaine" video features her going for Doris Day-in-Paris girly wear, which is hilarious.

She also did a live cover of "No More Tears" with some Brit boy bander, turning it from a song about wronged women to a lament by a gay man and lesbian without changing a word.

She just reunited with The Reclines to perform at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Skip to 1:09:45ish

R18, No More Tears was with Andy Bell of Erasure.

by Anonymousreply 20October 13, 2024 3:21 AM

I saw her in concert some years ago. The audience consisted of two men and thousands of lesbians. I’ve never seen such a concentration of female lust. They were panting for her. And she knew it.

by Anonymousreply 21October 13, 2024 5:00 AM

r14 Meh, you tried

by Anonymousreply 22October 13, 2024 6:40 AM

Constant Craving is my favorite song!!! It’s like she wrote it with me in mind!!!

by Anonymousreply 23October 13, 2024 6:51 AM

It's the way she can hold notes with no vocal embellishments that makes her very rich voice so unique.

by Anonymousreply 24October 13, 2024 6:10 PM

Eat your nut loaf, r22

by Anonymousreply 25October 13, 2024 6:10 PM

You can have her/him

by Anonymousreply 26October 13, 2024 8:54 PM

R18, kd’s a performance artist so “classic” was out of the question.

by Anonymousreply 27October 13, 2024 9:24 PM

A recent thread.....with her name written in her preferred lowercase.

k.d. is likely retired from touring and recording, alas, but we may see her from time to time on TV specials and the like.

I love her - have most of her records on vinyl - and will always love her for many reasons.

BUT I think she's probably retired at the right time. She's gotten very fat in that aging dyke way, and she was out of breath during that Reclines performance.

And a k.d. lang without breath control is really not a great thing. So her retirement is probably a good thing.

She once rear-ended me on Mulholland Drive. We were in traffic, so she was going very slowly. I could tell by the force of which she hit me that it was likely no damage, so I was super chill. I got out of the car to check if there was any damage and she came charging at me with a loud voice, I think expecting there to be some kind of a fight or argument. I think she was surprised that I was not angry about it. I didn't let on that I knew who she was. I checked my car and there was no damage, so I told her all was fine and that de-escalated her mood quite a bit. Got back in my car and drove off.

[quote] It's the way she can hold notes with no vocal embellishments that makes her very rich voice so unique.

But everyone loves excessive vibrato!
