Soup Thread
For today’s event, I am mangling a simple Allrecipe soup that is usually idiot proof.
Out of the gate, I’m using canned northern beans as my tap water does not soften beans. Also, I’m out of fucking celery so it’s celery seed.
I have increased the garlic and I have replaced the mustard with creamy horseradish. It opens my sinuses to the other flavors.
They want me to discard the hocks and replace with cubed ham steak. They can suck shit; the hock is part of the experience.

OP. How do you know so much about ham hocks? Your ancestry?

I made a navy bean soup the other day. My recipe also called for cubed ham, but I decided to keep the hock meat, too.. The recipe was right. It was a greasy, grisly mess not worth the effort.

R1, I grew up with the ham bone, but converted to hocks in my 30s when I worked with older women who knew how to make good food. They let me spy. I have yet to pick up the liquid smoke habit. It feels like appropriation and the taste doesn’t really do anything special for me.

Thank you. I'm going to make this the next time my husband travels for work. I love a good ham/bean soup with cornbread.

I made chicken noodle soup yesterday. I was great, but I forgot there was a reason I don’t use the meat cleaver.
Could have been worse.

My mom and dad both loved ham & bean soup with fresh baked cornbread. I never fix it for myself but suddenly I would consider it.

So you're making Ham & Beans, big whoopie do. Make some corn bread to go with it.
