The Human Rights Campaign has completely lost its fucking mind
In their annual lineup of transgender people who have been killed is a Louisiana inmate named “Yella Clark, Jr,” who was service a life sentence. He was initially sent to prison for armed robbery, so we already know he was a pillar of the community. Then while in prison he killed another inmate so his sentence was enhanced to life in prison. He then became a she and was eventually killed in prison.
What crackhead on HRC’s staff thought this was a good way to raise money? How is showcasing the death of a violent, felonious tranny going to earn sympathy for the LGBT community?

All I know is that in the DC / Maryland / Virginia area you used to see lots of equality stickers on cars. Now I can't tell you the last time I saw one ,that might an indication of a dwindling support. Between their financial irresponsibility and now this. Just because your LGB or TIQA + you are not above the law and should be exonerated.

If solicited for money by the HRC, the correct response is to refer them to the Ts for their fundraising, as that is the cohort HRC now serves. Same with GLAAD.

There is nothing to indicate that this person was killed because they were trans. A violent criminal is killed in a prison fight and should be “honored” because . . . Why? As a symbol of trans people being killed in prisons? Surely we can call attention to this problem without “honoring” the victim.
The suggestion is that being trans wipes the slate clean? Offensive.

R11 It’s old hat now for them to use black trans as martyrs. The trans movement got their start by piggybacking off the Black Lives Matter era. That’s where the Marsha P. Johnson bullshit kicked up and they used murder black trans hookers as the faces of their movement. The black faces started to disappear the bigger the movement became though.
Which in itself is old hat. The white feminists dragged out a 100 year old Harriet Tubman to speak at feminist rallies while they fought against black men being able to vote before them.

[quote]Yella was finally living their truth--something that everyone deserves to do, no matter their circumstances. Yet the circumstances of their death, and the harassment and violence faced while incarcerated, show that the system failed them as it does far too often for trans and gender-expansive people." Tori Cooper, Human Rights Campaign Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative
[quote]In an injustice compounding this tragedy, Yella was misgendered in some media and police reports—despite the fact that they testified in court about their transgender identity and were receiving gender-affirming hormones through Angola prison.

One of the British trans poster girls is "Sarah Jane" Baker,
When Baker was 20 he was involved with kidnapping, torturing and sexually assaulting a young man. When in prison he tried to kill another prisoner and his sentence was extended, and then he escaped and his sentence was extended again. Then he discovered his true gender identity and cut his own testicles off.
Now released from prison, he's achieved celebrity for painting KILL JK ROWLING signs, protesting lesbian meetings and screaming at a protest march to "punch a terf" which saw him returned to prison for a short period.

As we see now, the LGBT rights organizations got it right. Once gay marriage became accepted, the right turned against trans--increased stigma, passed laws, blamed them for the fall of Western Civilization.
Yes, this trans person wasn't the most pure, but straight (white) people just whitewash their heroes:
When Christopher Columbus was governor of the Indies, he constantly chopped off the limbs of and slaughtered native men, women, and children--so much so that the King of Spain was appalled, had him arrested, and taken back to Spain. Do we learn that? Nope, but we have parades in his name..
George Washington and many of the other founders ran forced labor camps, We revere them,

The measure of a society is how it treats its prisoners. No-one should be murdered in prison (that includes by the state, through a death sentence) even if they have done heinous crimes themselves. Is tit for tat really the kind of ethics we want to adopt?
Nor should the state permit rapes and murders within prisons on the grounds that the victims deserved it anyway.
Perhaps 'honored' wasn't a wise choice of word, however.

R46 Of course that guy's rights matter. That's why Clark was convicted and sentenced to life in prison after that murder. The authorities should have done more to prevent that guy's murder, *and also* Clark's murder, there's no conflict here. Being a 'tranny' or not isn't really relevant.
Clark's initial sentence of 75 years for armed robbery was also ridiculous. If US authorities were willing to actually spend money on conditions on prison and transferring to life outside, they might have been rehabilitated. Unfortunately US authorities and voters prefer to make prisons hellholes.

BTW the US has 5% of the world's population but 25% of the world's prisoners. Black people are incarcerated at five times the rate whites are. When prisoners get out, they find huge barriers to living a normal law-abiding life, including, in some states, being classified as an ex-felon for the rest of their lives with all the implications for finding gainful employment, and being denied the right to vote.
Do Americans really think these incarceration rates make their society better? No.

R55, a large percent of MTF transgendered people are what a generation ago would have been called “cross-dressers” - ie. autogynephilic men who get a sexual kick out of imagining themselves as sexualized women but are all themselves attracted to women, they may be an even larger cohort then the MTF transgendered people who a generation ago would have been considered gay men so hyper-feminine that they are psychically/socially female.
I believe that analytics show that the men who seek and consume MTF porn content are typically (in very un PC terms) mostly straight but have a “chicks with dicks” kink as opposed to gay men.

That was Mac Maclelland, a kickass environmental and human rights journalist. I was acquainted with her when she was Mac and not "Gabriel Mac." Now she's writing about nothing but Queerness and seems to have gone down the Professional Queer rabbit hole the way your elderly uncle might go down the Q-anon rabbit hole.
